Sonic the Hedgehog 2 — the sequel where I was even bigger and badder! In this game, I unveil my orbital space station: the Death Egg. Oh yes, I went all out for this one. New island, new army, new seven-Emerald superweapon plan. And of course, a new sidekick to annoy me: that twin-tailed twerp, Tails.

Our setting this time? West Side Island, home of ancient secrets. Legend has it, an ancient civilization was wiped out for abusing the Chaos Emeralds that were once buried there. Me? I saw opportunity. So while Sonic was taking it easy, I slipped in, built up my forces, and started gathering Emeralds to power my glorious space station. What can I say? I'm a real go-getter.

But then Sonic shows up, followed by his new fanboy fox. I don’t know where he found this one — a flying fox with two tails — but sure, fine, the more the merrier. They chased me across the island's various Zones, smashing my Badniks and ruining my mechs while I patiently tested their limits. Chemical plants, ancient ruins, casinos, oil refineries — each Zone had plenty of my personalized deathtraps waiting for them. But those pests are resilient.

Sonic and his little buddy had a new trick this time: the Spin Dash. Sonic could now blast forward from a standstill. Cute. I responded with Mecha Sonic, a robotic double who could not only replicate the Spin Dash, but could fire off his spikes in every direction! Advantage: still me.

To find the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic had to make his way through seven Special Stages, and they were devious. A 3D half-pipe obstacle course full of bombs and Rings to collect. If Sonic collected all seven Chaos Emeralds, he’d become an even bigger pest than he already is: Super Sonic — faster, invincible, glowing gold, and with an ego twice as large. Did it stop me? No. Did it slow me down? Possibly. Did it make me mad? Absolutely.

Eventually, Sonic boarded my Wing Fortress after I blasted his plane out of the sky (you're welcome), hijacked my rocket, and broke into the Death Egg itself. No Rings. No checkpoints. Just a double-boss gauntlet of pain. First Mecha Sonic, then the towering Death Egg Robot — a 12-hit behemoth modeled after yours truly. A fitting final challenge.

Eventually the blue boor crashed my Death Egg and escaped mid-air, either rescued by Tails or descending as Super Sonic if he had all the Emeralds. If Tails was the lead? He got a lift from Sonic instead. Doesn’t matter. They ran. I survived to fight another day. The Death Egg would rise again.

From its crash site on Angel Island, I would begin to hatch a new scheme...
