Step aside, amateurs — it's time for a real racer to speak. Yes, yes, another Sonic racing game is out, and this's called Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. But don't be fooled by the name. This isn't just about the hedgehog. Oh no. As always, I — Dr. Eggman — am behind the wheel, alongside my gleaming, glorious creation Metal Sonic and my darling daughter Sage. Even one of my basic Egg Pawns has tagged along for the ride!
This entry tosses aside that silly “team mechanic” nonsense from the last game and gets back to every racer for themselves! CrossWorlds blends traditional three-lap races with a brand new twist: after lap one, the racer in first place (me, naturally) gets to pick between two enormous Travel Rings. These portals fling the race into one of fifteen CrossWorlds, temporary alternate tracks filled with chaos, frenzy effects, and boost gates that change everything. Then — boom! — back to the original track for a final lap with new shortcuts, layout changes, and a chance for dramatic comebacks… or crushing defeat. (Guess which one you'll get?)
You’ve got options: standard transforming vehicles that shift between car, boat, and plane — just like my old blueprints in All-Stars Racing Transformed — or for those with nostalgia for the Sonic Riders series, Extreme Gear hoverboards return! And finally, racers are no longer locked into one vehicle. Choose your ride, mix and match 45 unlockable machines, tweak stats, and even bolt on gadgets. Six slots, dozens of perks — the possibilities are... well, almost as endless as my intellect.
Vehicle classes range from Speed to Acceleration, Power to Handling, and of course, the wonderfully explosive Boost. But gadgets are where true strategists shine — suck in Rings from a distance, rig your odds for better power-ups, dominate the track with precision. My kind of upgrades.
And don’t get me started on the roster. SEGA claims this is the largest character lineup in a Sonic racing title yet — twenty-three confirmed racers at launch, including cameos from other Sega franchises. Characters from Sonic Prime appear in the digital deluxe edition. Could we see members of the Chaos Council, perhaps?
But none of them matter — not really. Not when I’m in the race. And when Eggman races... Eggman wins. So prepare yourselves, foolish competitors. CrossWorlds is coming, and I’ll be taking every shortcut, mastering every modifier, and laughing maniacally from first place while the rest of you eat my dust.
See you on the track — if you can catch me.
